Mark Elliot Zuckerberg is born on May 14, 1984, is an American entrepreneur and philanthropist. He is well known for founding the social media platform ‘Facebook’. He is the chairman, chief executive officer, and controlling shareholder of Facebook Inc now known as Meta.

According to Mark, the purpose of life is to care for people around you and everyone. Human connection is the meaning of life. He explains with the metaphor as playing with friends in school is more important than finishing homework in free time. We should have a habit of connecting more and creating a beautiful place around us for the coming generation.

Comment – According to Mark, the meaning of life is the human connection. The purpose is to connect with people and make the most valuable things out of it for the upcoming generation.

In the podcast with Lex Fridman, Mark states that he is aware of his mortality and always lives in the moment. He is constantly aware of the actions he takes in his daily life. He is aware and accepts the fact that our existence is temporary and we should utilize our limited time for human connection and saving humanity. According to him, the only purpose of our life should be connecting human life and helping them in whichever way we can contribute. He further adds, he drives the same principles in his company name as ‘Facebook’.

At the time around 2007 when Mark was struggling to keep Facebook going, he went to his mentor Steve Jobs for advice. Steve Jobs then recommended Mark to go to India and visit a Temple in the north hills of India. The temple belonged to a popular being – Neem Karoli Baba, by whom Steve Jobs was influenced and he himself visited the temple on his first tour to India before starting Apple. It is said that Steve Jobs found his meaning of life by Visiting the Neem Karoli Baba Temple.

Neem Karoli Baba was born around 1900. I have personally visited the temple and people at the temple say that when he was only nineteen years old he knew everything about life. He could tell things about any person without prior knowledge about that person.

During his life, he went to many places. He traveled a lot across Northern India. He was a Hindu guru, a mystic, and devotee of the Hindu God Hanuman. Outside of India, he was known for being the guru of a lot of popular American entrepreneurial personalities like Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg, Larry Brilliant, Larry Page, and Jeffrey Skoll, co-founder of eBay.

Mark spent around 2 months at the temple to connect with himself and the purpose of Facebook.

Comments- In the above video, Mark explains how finding purpose is not enough and one should aim for a higher purpose. Finding individual purpose isn’t enough, purpose should be bigger than yourself, which connects the people and nature with each other. Purpose brings happiness.

10 Years later after he found his purpose and purpose of Facebook, he addressed the commencement for Harvard class of 2017, where he shared his Harvard memories and spoke about finding purpose and meaning in one’s life.

Mark Said a lot of Finding Purpose, I have curated the best quotes from his speech. You can read the full transcript here or watch the video.

Purpose is that sense that we are part of something bigger than ourselves, that you are needed, that we have something better ahead to work for. Purpose is what creates true happiness.

Mark Zuckerberg

It’s not enough to have purpose yourself. You have to create a sense of purpose for others.

Mark Zuckerberg

Let’s do big things, not only to create progress, but to create purpose.
