Sri Ramana Maharshi was an Indian Hindu sage and liberated being(jivanmukta). He was born Venkataraman Iyer in Tamil Nadu, part of Southern India. He has written the masterpiece book “Who am I?” This book has inspired millions across the globe. It is a life-changing book for Spiritual seekers.

His spiritual journey started with his death experience at the age of 16, where he realizes the awareness of being ‘I’ and further he identified as ‘Personal God or Ishwara,’  which is Shiva.  Later, he started his Spiritual journey by staying alone up in hills and meditating continuously. While practicing Meditation on hills, he became aware of himself and his consciousness. He started diving more and more practice to raise his consciousness level. Later years, he attracted devotees that regarded him as an ‘avatar’. He recommends devotees to inquire about self(within) as the process of destroying ignorance and ego from within and accept self-awareness, with the help of bhakti(devotion) or surrender to self. Venkataraman Iyer was formerly known as Sri Bhagavan Ramana Maharishi. He was an Indian Hindu Sage and jivanmukta (liberated being)

“All that is required to realize the Self is to “Be Still.”

Ramana Maharshi

Maharshi on Spiritual austerity- He recommended self-inquiry as the principal means to remove ignorance and endure self-awareness, together with bhakti(devotion) for God.

“One can know oneself only with one’s eye of knowledge,
and not with somebody else’s.”

Ramana Maharshi

The purpose of life is to endure in the Self and to stay in the Sahaja state by the jnana marga(knowledge road). The meaning of the present birth is to turn within and realize the self. All other purposes in life are secondary. The highest goal of man is to enquire “Who am I” and realize the self.

According to him, the purpose of life was to follow in the Self and to stay in the Sahaja (liberation)state by the jnana marga(knowledge path). He further says there is another deep purpose of life is that to search for the true meaning of oneself, one has to turn inward and realize that there is nothing else to do. The ultimate truth is sat-chit means available here and now.

“Your own Self-Realization is the greatest service you can render the world.”

Ramana Maharshi

“Realisation is not the acquisition of anything new nor is it a new faculty. It is the only removal of all camouflage.” He further explains liberation is not a separation of the body it’s the ultimate Union with Brahma(the universe).

While diving inward, you will experience peace and it will lead you to the path of Moksha (Liberation). You will realize that there is nowhere we have to go or reach there is no such as a destination. You are already there where you have to be. To realize this level of AWARENESS, one needs to practice meditation and have immense faith in God.

He explains with the example – Just like a passenger in a Train, trust the guard that he will lead you to the destination likewise, a devotee should have immense trust in God (almighty) and he will land you to Self-discovery. Stop worrying about the outside world problems, and focus on inner evolution. Channeling your energies at a higher frequency while meditating will help you to attain God.

“Happiness is your nature. It is not wrong to desire it. What is wrong is seeking it outside when it is inside.”

Ramana Maharshi

Consciousness originates you to search out the truth because awareness itself wants to be awakened in you. Awareness comes from intense Sadhana(Devotion). We are all instruments of the divine will but we become conscious of it only after awakening.

“Happiness is your nature. It is not wrong to desire it. What is wrong is seeking it outside when it is inside.”

Ramana Maharshi

”Become conscious of being conscious. Say or think “I am”, and add nothing to it. Be aware of the stillness that follows the “I am”. Sense your presence, the naked unveiled, unclothed beingness. It is untouched by young or old, rich or poor, good or bad, or any other attributes. It is the spacious womb of all creation, all form. You are aware. Awareness is another name for you. Since you are aware there is no need to attain or cultivate it.”

The purpose of one’s birth will be fulfilled whether you wish it or not or Let the purpose fulfill itself.

“The Only useful purpose of the present birth is to turn within and realise the Self. There is nothing else to do.”

“Whatever is destined not to happen will not happen, try as you may. Whatever is destined to happen will happen, do what you may prevent it. This is certain. The best course, therefore, is to remain silent.”

Ramana Maharshi

“If you hold this feeling of ‘I’ long enough and strongly enough, the false ‘I’ will vanish leaving only the unbroken awareness of the real, immanent ‘I’, consciousness itself.”
